Hurtigruten to Expand 2017 Deployment

Hurtigruten announced a dedicated ship for "more extreme experiences", a tripling of its berths to Antarctica, major refurbishment of 4 of its Norwegian coastal cruise ships, and the launch of a new one – ms Spitsbergen.

The line also confirmed expansion of the 2017 Explorer Program: 4 ships (up from 2 in 2015) will sail expedition cruises; Hurtigruten’s Arctic program will stretch to Labrador and Newfoundland provinces of Canada, adding to the roster of Iceland, Greenland and Spitsbergen; and an Amazon River sailing.

“We want to offer our guests unique and meaningful experiences regardless of the water temperature,” said Hurtigruten CEO Daniel Skjeldam. “Hurtigruten attracts guests who want to be involved, not be passive spectators. They want active excursions, to interact with local people, to learn about the cultures, geography, geology, climates and history of the destinations they are visiting, and they want to sail with a company dedicated to sustainable travel and the environment.”
