Baby born on RMS Queen Mary 2

The world's largest oceanliner, 2,620-passenger Queen Mary 2, arrived in Brooklyn with an extra passenger this week. A baby boy was born at sea to a German guest.

The ship was on a transatlantic crossing from Southampton, when the woman went into labor. The ship doctor delivered the baby.

Cunard spokeswoman Jackie Chase said in a prepared statement:

"Cunard can happily confirm the safe arrival of a baby boy on board Queen Mary 2 on Sunday 17 January while enroute to New York. Both mother and baby are doing well".

According to New York Post, the baby boy, who arrived 3 weeks early, was named Benjamin Brooklyn.

Just lke most cruise lines, Cunard also has a policy setting limits on pregnant cruisers and passengers who are pregnant may travel "as long as they do not enter their 24th week of pregnancy by the final day of their cruise and their doctor has agreed both mother and baby are fit to travel."

RMS Queen Mary 2 is currently on her world cruise.

The German woman was traveling with her brother. Mom, baby and uncle remained in New York. Benjamin is the third child and first boy in the family of Johanna.
