Norwegian Getaway to Boost Copenhagen

28 January 2016

Next year, Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) will replace its Norwegian Star with the larger Norwegian Getaway. The ship carries nearly 1,000 more guests, and Copenhagen will result with 36,000 more passenger movements.

The capital of Denmark will be the starting point for eighteen cruises to the Norwegian Fjords and Baltic, one more than the line is offering this year.

The first port call is on May 16, 2017. Around 4,000 cruise passengers will disembark between 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. An hour later, embarkation will start for 4,000 passengers prior to their 5:00 p.m. departure.

In connection with just one single call, 12,000 suitcases and 15 large trucks with provisions are handled. 40 tour buses transport passengers to/from the ship. The call generates 1,500 taxi journeys, and some travelers use public transporation in the form of bus, train and metro.

According to the chief operating officer, Copenhagen Malmö Port, Arnt Møller Pedersen, the increased number of cruisers from Norwegian Cruise Line will generate additional revenue for the region to the tune of up to 55 million Danish kroner per year.
