3rd Oceania Riviera Norovirus Outbreak

28 March 2016

For the third time since December 2015, the Vessel Sanitation Program (VSP) of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is investigating a norovirus outbreak aboard the Oceania Cruises ship Riviera.

The latest cruise, a 14-day round-trip from Miami which started on March 20, reported 52 passengers ill with vomiting and diarrhea. Specimens collected and tested onboard have been found to be positive for norovirus. These will be sent for additional testing to CDC.

The voyage ends on April 3. No crew members have been affected to date.

Norovirus outbreaks have been investigated on Oceania Riviera last fall, and more recently, in February, when 127 people were stricken with gastrointestinal virus.
