Costa Asia with an Order for Two New Ships

3 April 2016

Costa Group yesterday announced an order for two new cruise ships to be built by Fincantieri, Italy. The newbuilds, each with 135,500 GT and carrying 4,200 passengers, are scheduled for delivery in 2019 and 2020.

They will be specifically designed for Chinese market and operated by Costa Asia, Asian brand of Costa Group.

Costa Asia with an Order for Two New Ships

The new ships of Costa Asia are part of contracts signed yesterday (April 2) by Carnival Corp. & plc with Fincantieri, Italy to build 5 new ships by 2020 at company’s shipyards in Marghera and Monfalcone, finalizing a memorandum of agreement revealed in 2015.

Thanks to the new vessels, Costa Group has 7 new ships on order with a capacity of 41,000 berths all (2 for Costa Asia, 2 for the Italian brand Costa Cruises and 3 for the German Aida Cruises), bringing the total capacity of Costa fleet to 110,000 berths.
