World Dream First Steel Cut

24 February 2016

Genting Hong Kong marked the official start of building the second new ship of Dream Cruises, World Dream, during a steel cutting ceremony at Meyer Werft shipyard (Papenburg, Germany). The chairman of Genting Hong Kong, Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay, said:

“This is a very proud moment for Dream Cruises. Utilising our 23 years of cruise experience in Asia, World Dream, together with her sister ship Genting Dream, are luxury cruise ships designed from inception for the Chinese and Asian markets. With only 3,400 passengers, compared with over 4,000 for similar vessels, they will also be the most spacious and luxurious megaships in Asia Pacific.”
With 2,000 crew members, the new World Dream will feature the highest crew to guest ratio for cruise vessels based in Asia and their service will set new standards at sea. To further accommodate the needs of its regional guests, nearly all front of house crew will be bilingual in English and Putonghua.

At the Steel Cutting ceremony, the president of Dream Cruises, Thatcher Brown, said:

“Like her sister ship, Genting Dream, World Dream will cater to the growing affluent middle class in the Asian region by delivering a dream cruise experience.

“Guests looking for the best can stay in the Dream Mansion, an exclusive, private “ship within a ship” with 142 spacious suites offering European style butler service and special access to members’ only dining, entertainment, sun decks and gyms.”
Dream Cruises' World Dream will feature facilities designed for an international cruising experience with Asian characteristics. More than 35 restaurants and bars will be available onboard with an emphasis on Asian dining experiences from all major regional cuisines of China. The ship will appeal not only to guests from China but a broader clientele such as South East Asian, Japanese, Italian, and more.

World Dream will start sailings in November 2017, following her twin sister Genting Dream that is scheduled to start cruises in November 2016 from her homeport Guangzhou.
