Star Clippers Introduces Flying Clipper

1 April 2016

Star Clippers revealed the name of its next 5-masted square-rigger, the 300-passenger Flying Clipper, scheduled for delivery in late 2017.

When Flying Clipper embarks on her maiden cruising season at the end of 2017, she will not only be the line’s 4th and biggest sailing ship but the biggest square-rigged sailing vessel ever built. Measuring 8,770 GT, Flying Clipper will be inspired by France II of 1911 - the world’s biggest square-rigged sailing ship at that time.

Currently under construction in Split, Croatia at the Brodosplit shipyard, Flying Clipper will have 5 masts and 35 sails totaling 6,350 sq.meters.

According to Star Clippers' press release, the new clipper will have 3 pools, one that funnels sunlight through ship’s atrium into the elegant dining room. There will also be a water sports platform in the stern and a variety of stateroom grades, including 34 suites with private balconies and 4 luxurious owner’s suites.

Flying Clipper's restaurant in the atrium will accommodate all guests for open-seating dining. A glass Dive bar for the younger passengers will occupy several compartments of the yaucht. Regular guests will discover favorite hallmarks of Star Clippers ships, such as the bowsprit net, the cosy library, and the al fresco Tropical Bar. While the ship will feature ecologically sound, high-tech engines, she will rely on wind power and sails wherever possible.
